HASAR Confectionery Company Receives Halal Certificate
The first international Halal certificate in Turkmenistan was issued to HASAR, with the support of SGS’s offices in Dubai and Ashgabat.
Recently, halal products have been gaining popularity in many countries around the world. More and more people, regardless of religion, have begun to lead a healthy lifestyle and adhere to proper nutrition. Increasingly, the term “halal” is being used in the food industry and is associated with quality and sustainability. Vegetables and fruits do not contain nitrates, meat – carcinogens or GMOs, and dairy products – preservatives or artificial taste or color enhancers.
In recent years, many food companies from Central Asia have entered the markets of Muslim countries. One of the criteria for entry is halal certification. It was for this service that the confectionery factory HASAR (Turkmenistan) turned to SGS.
- The first work toward obtaining the certificate began in 2019, when the first stageo f the audit was successfully passed
- In early 2020, confectionery factory employees participated in training on the halal certification system in Dubai, UAE
- In November of the same year, samples of HASAR products were analyzed at SGS’s accredited laboratory in Istanbul
- In the beginning of 2021, an online audit was conducted with the cooperation of qualified auditors from SGS, after which it was confirmed that production meets the requirements of the international halal standard (UAE.S GSO 2055-1: 2015 standard).
Unfortunately, the pandemic delayed plans, and the audit process dragged on for some time. During this period, HASAR was assisted by specialists from SGS’s Turkmen office. They provided technical support and consulted with employees on a regular basis.
As a result of this joint activity, the HASAR company received the corresponding halal certificate on June 1, 2021. This is the first Halal certificate accredited in the UAE and by ESMA in Turkmenistan. It gives the right to export products with the HALAL symbol to the Gulf countries as well as Malaysia. We at SGS are proud of this achievement!
The halal certificate applies not only to the products with the HASAR trademark, but also to HASAR’s production process and services related to confectionery products. An important advantage of such certification is that it helps HASAR to meet the domestic Halal market’s demand for safe and high quality products and promote the trademarks of Turkmen manufacturers on the international halal products market.
It is important to mention that the Halal certificate from SGS is also recognized by KOSHER (a system for certifying products and services for compliance with the canons of Judaism).
